Re-thinking about the breeding

I am thinking, and I feel like maybe this won't be a good time to give it a try. I'm not sure yet. Depends on what our summer plans are.

Unfortunately I couldn't get any pics of him in the bath. I had ran upstairs to find my camera, and by the time I got back he was done.

New camera

I will be getting a new camcorder tomorrow. Or I should be. Which means clearer and better videos of the birds.

I had NO idea I had gotten followers! :P I don't write a whole lot on here because of that. I will try and post more. And if you guys don't mind, I will post off topic things here too.

About the breeder

Well another disappointment, apparently she didn't have any birds needing new homes...People PLEASE, update your sites and ads!!! And her hand fed budgies are $50. If I were to get a pair it would cost me $100...plus everything else such as nesting material, hand feeding formula, nest box, breeding cage etc. *sigh* And she is the only breeder in my city that sells budgies.

I'm not a fan of using your pets as breeders...but if I really want to do this I may just have to do that.

Ugh

Well that plan failed, the parents are currently on eggs. It would be nice of her to either take down the ad for now, or at least state somewhere that the birds are currently unavailable.

Found another...

I found a woman selling her 2 budgies  (apparently proven breeding pair) for $60 OBO with the cage and nest box. If I end up doing it this summer, having all of this will make it much easier on me, then to have to go around shops searching for everything.

I called and her daughter picked up and asked to call back in an hour, as her mom wasn't home.

The only thing standing in my way now is my parents...I hope they say "yes"....*sigh*

Found a Breeder

I found a breeder: Sweetie Tweeties...She breeds many birds. I have emailed her to ask about her budgies and 2 lovebirds needing a new home! One of them named Miro caught my attention.

Summer is near!

Can't wait, summer is so close. Been doing some reading on breeding budgies. I think we may end up doing it this summer...:D

It's been a while

Sorry, it's been a while since I posted!! No interesting updates right now. For a grad gift however I have asked for a new picture/video camera. Hopefully it will be of much better quality. I will have much better videos and pictures of the birds. Grad is in June. So not too long of a wait. :P

NTM Update

We were eliminated... :( We had tons of fun during the competition though! And I will still be watching to see who gets the big crown! :D

Breeding...

As some of you may know, I am trying to save up and make money for possibly breeding budgies. This is also the reason to why I changed my poll. I hope to be able to try at my first clutch soon after researching and making extra money.

If I go ahead with this, I will post on TB first to let you guys know. I will keep a journal, but on my blog here. I just find it much easier and quicker to post here (especially pictures).

Budgies just beaked at it. So I left it in their food bowl. Diego was very excited to try. :D

I suck at baking so I only made a few! XD

Homemade Nutri Berries

1 C dried fruit of your choice
2 TB coconut
1/2 c old fashioned oatmeal, uncooked
1/4 c seed mix of any kind
1/4 c pellets, your choice
2 TB honey or molasses

Put first 3 items in a blender/food processor and blend. Add the rest of the ingredients--it will be sticky! On a greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet, roll balls of various sizes and put 1" apart. Bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 min. Check at 15 min to make sure they are not brown, but set. Cool and store in a tightly covered jar.

I followed this recipe. The only thing I did not have was the coconut, and the only dried fruit I had was some raisins...They are in the oven now. I will post a picture once they're done!

NTM Update

Well somehow managed to stay in. Always sad to see contestants go :( Charlies entries were one of my faves! Next challenge is "Bird Buddies"...so we have to take photo's of our birds with their friends. I can't be in the picture so that narrrows down my ideas...and the only other bird that he will get along with is Chico. He hates Sprinkles for some reason and the girls aren't interested in him at all... :P I managed to catch some photo's a little while ago. Not sure if they're good enough for the competition though. Everyones pictures are SO great.

Okay...well there aren't many people who read it...lol. But I just wanted to say that to anyone who does that you will get to know things before I post them on TB...little secrets if I have any. I'm sorry my blog isn't very interesting right now. Most of it is NTM and BOTM updates...not sure what else to put up...suggestions on how to make my blog more interesting would be greatly appreciated! :)

Happy Pixie

I was studying yesterday in my room (also where the birds are), I let pixie sit high up on my desk on a picture frame by herself. I think she really liked being up there with no other bird because...I heard her sing!! I know a bird singing, what's so amazing about that? Well, ever since I've had her since 2009- I have NEVER heard her sing before. She even did quick little head bobs! I was so surprised. It was adorable. She even tried to regurgitate for the picture! Another thing I have never seen.

Why he's like this? I don't know. He has never been handled before except once to transfer him into his new cage-when we first bought him (last summer). He sits on my shoulder and knees-likes to eat my food...but has this problem. If you have any advice as to how to stop it let me know. And don't worry. I do not sit there and tease him like that all day! Just wanted to show you :P
