Bad news

Wow it has been long since I have updated this.

If you haven't already read the TB threads here is what happened in short:

Around the beginning of November, Pixie suddenly fell ill. After trying to medicate her ourselves, and even taking her to a vet we were not able to save her. The vet suspected she was having troubles with an egg.

On November 11th, 2011 we found pixie laying in her basket (we had given her one so she could lay comfortable because she could not perch anymore) she was not breathing. She was gone. :(

Ever since she got sick I have been heartbroken, I basically stopped eating and slept on the couch all day. It has been very tough. She was very special to me. Not a day went by where I didn't give her kisses or call her name. I miss her very much. But it has been a little over a week now and I am starting to feel better. She is not in pain anymore.

She was a special bird and she left on a special day, 11/11/11-comes only once every 100 years, Remembrance day and on a Friday which is a holy day for all Muslims...

I will love and miss you forever my baby girl <3

Thank you J, for the beautiful tribute photo.

My weird girls

They absolutely hate each other. They keep far away from one another, and if they get too close they make their angry noises until one backs away or peck at each other.

But...The funniest thing is that, when they're all taking their day time nap. The 2 are ALWAYS sitting next to each other as if best friends.

I have very weird girls.

I can see straiiiight through your soul!

Members on TB thought this photo was pretty funny, so I will share here:

Poor little man

I allow my bird turns outside of the cage as I study. I always cover the top of Diego's cage when the budgies are out and when Diego is out I cover the top of the budgies cage. Today I let the budgies out first.

Diego was eating and Sprinkles must have gotten curious and managed to fly and land on the cage bars right where the food bowl is.

Diego lunged and bit.  The poor little guy quickly flew off and tucked his foot into his little feather:

Fortunately when I got a good look at his foot it was just a small 'nick'

He kept his foot tucked for a while, it must have stung a bit. But the little guy is back to normal now: Curious about the pink clock  I covered Diego's cage completely then until it was his turn to come out (I covered the budgies cage completely during his time outside). It works perfectly, no one will get hurt this way and it will allow some quiet/rest time.

Exciting news!

My scarf was hanging on my chair...and then I got an idea. I turned off the light and scooped Diego up into it. I turned it back on. At first he was a bit freaked out, but eventually he calmed down...to the point where he was preening himself, playing with the strings...and letting us pet his little head!

Some of you may know that he loves to bite fingers. Any skin that is within lunging distance will get bit. I really don't know why he is so aggressive. He'll share food with us, loves shoulder rides and loves to sit on our knees.

I was so surprised that all I had to do was scoop him up, let him collect himself and then pet him. I am so happy. I think I will be picking him up more often lol.

And here are some pics (I took a TON--so I will show you my favorites):

A bit off topic

We had found a stray kitten in our neighbors backyard. We spent lots of time trying to catch her and finally did. We brought her into our house, fed her, played with her and handled her.

Unfortunately we were not able to keep her. So we tried finding shelters, but for some reason most were not picking up, had certain telephone hours etc. We only found one but she was not able to come here and retrieve the cat. And we had no one at the time to drive us there, nor did we have a carrier to transport the kitty in...so we released her back and she went straight for our neighbors yard under the shed.

Our neighbors can surprisingly handle her now. I think we tamed her down a bit. I feel very proud as we have zero experience with cats.

Sine the kitten is on their property and she is now pretty calm with people-- we are going to leave it up to them to deal with her and give her the care she needs. They bring her food everyday. Now I just hope that they will get her to a vet or shelter so she can get some help. Since unfortunately we weren't able to do much except make the cat more handle-able?? LOL that is not a word.

If you want more info on all of this I posted in the chichat section of TB. :)

Here are some pics :)

Been a while

Wow, it's been a while since I last updated this. Nothing new. I am however aching to get another bird. Either another budgie, a friend for Diego or...a Cockatiel. I am really interested in those right now and I have seen quite a lot of ads.

Reasons:

Budgie: Well who wouldn't want to get another one of those little monkeys!

Lovebird: I feel bad at times for Diego (that he has no friend) His cage is next to the budgies all the time...but still. It would be fun to see him interact with a buddy.

Cockatiel: They're known for their laid back and friendly nature..and of course they're just adorable. I would also love to care for another breed of bird. I don't know...I think I like variety. :P

Here's what we got!

My siblings and I went to Petsmart today. We had a list planned, as you can see below. But we ended up not finding everything. Sow e had to make changes. We ended up with more expensive stuff. We were going to spend $40 but ended up at around $70 xD.

Here are the things we bought:

Here's the setup, a bit lame but it's the best we could do:

Shopping trip planned

I am going to be using part of my money, hopefully soon this week. We have planned ahead, and decided what we want.

We are wanting to create a play area for the birds outside of their cage. So none of the stuff will be going inside the cage.

We are getting:

2 ladders: one beaded, the other with wooden blocks
2 perches: One large tree like perch, one rope
2 toys
2 different types of treats we have wanted to try. I'm not really sure about these. We're curious about them, I have never seen anyone use them. We may change our mind and get something else equivalent to the amount that these cost-not sure yet.

I will have pics up, when I get them! :)

Wanting...

I am really wanting to get Diego a friend. Preferably another male. I see all these ads, and just wish I could bring home a buddy.

This one caught my attention, I emailed the lady to ask about them. She is going over seas and needs to downsize her flock. But my parents won't let me :( They say we have enough, we don't need more.

It's just so much more entertaining when there are 2. I feel bad when I see him alone.

This lady is selling for $80, I found another with the same colored lovie for $30

I wish I could have one.

Grad is over!

I was really nervous but thankfully it is over.

For a gift I got a new camcorder, the: JVC Everio GZ HM30

That means HD videos of the birds, here is my first:

I also got a $100 in cash. I'm wanting to buy one of those Visa gift cards so I can shop online! For my birds and myself.
